Let’s play 2 Truths and a Lie...
I am 30 years old
I am going to Africa in exactly 2 months
I am a fool
I know, I know- that was easy! Of course i’m 29 1/2 and obvi i'm going to Africa! Hahaha
THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE: I am a “fool” :) ! Let me explain...
When you're awkward...
I’ve always been slightly awkward.
Growing up I was taller than most of my friends, hated my short hair and was extremely insecure in my skin. As a result I had terrible posture, hid behind oversized clothes & embodied "shy".
HOWEVER, as I approach the
big 3-0, i’ve called fear a liar & grown to accept my “different” & embrace my “awkward”!
[[Special thanks to Issa Rae’s character in Insecure for putting my life all the way on blast… who gave her a copy of my diary though -_-]] LOL.
Although I am slightly awkward I always thought, “ At least my parent’s didn’t raise no fool!”. Then I read the Bible.
What had happened was...
Most people have heard classic Bible stories like Noah’s Ark found in Genesis 6. You familiar with it?
Well... What had happened was, God told Noah there were gonna be some unfavorable forecasts coming for all of humanity, i.e. a giant flood, BUT Noah was to build this Ark. The Ark would serve as a covenant and protection for Noah, and his family.
Basically, God hit the “reset” button on the world He initially created because it had gotten too evil. Everybody had to go, except Noah’s family. WHUUUUT?!
So why Noah? Why did God literally chose to start humanity over with this guy?
“But Noah was different. God liked what he saw in Noah”
Genesis 6:8 MSG
What exactly did he see?
"This is the story of Noah: Noah was a good man, a man of integrity in his community. Noah walked with God.” Genesis 6:9-10 MSG
There’s that word again: integrity. (Read more: Yaaass, Queen). It’s clear that Noah’s track record was pretty solid. God knew Noah was a ride or die (float or die) kind of man who wouldn’t let public ridicule, logic, shame or even the opinions of others cripple him from MOVING with God.
He could have easily been like, “na son, you ain't bout to have me out here in this drought slaving over no boat. Count me out!”. But the Bible says,
“Noah did everything God commanded him.”
Genesis 7:5 MSG
Noah built the Ark and it did in fact rain. ALOT. The earth flooded for 40 days to be exact.
This wasn’t any regular boat constructed for some light fishing, but a massive wooden vessel that was to house Noah, his family and 2 of every kind of animal- in the WORLD! (Basically the OG Titanic! #NeverLetGo)
This joint was approximately 510 feet long. It would take nearly one and a half football fields to equal it’s length. The roof of Noah’s Ark was more than 50 feet from the ground—higher than a modern four-story house.
Noah didn’t pull these dimensions or building measurement specifications out of his butt, Genesis 6:15 tells us God gave him clear direction... the thing is, at the time of construction nobody had seen rain for daaaaaays bruh.
Fools go hard...
While that whole thing is crazy, what stood out to me was, Noah’s willingness to look like a complete fool as he obeyed God. Imagine what it truly must have been like to BE Noah. To hear something seemingly ridiculous from God. To work, and put your family to work, FOR OVER 80 YEARS, on something that produced zero immediate paying off. Imagine investing years of your time, you retirement money, sacrificing sleep, vacations, parties, etc.
Noah had to go hard in the paint and completely rearrange what he knew of his former life in exchange for the life God had promised.
The good news is, Noah's obedience to the word of God all paid off! #WorthIt
Check out this 6 min inspiring video on some Biblical heros who dared to look foolish, and ultimately WON. Christine Caine = fire! She's super #lit.
I signed up to look foolish...
Like Noah, and other biblical greats, I dare to believe God! To move with Him in faith, even at the risk of looking like a fool! So, when I say I am a "fool", I don't mean i'm ignorant or uneducated - I am in fact wise enough to dare to appear foolish for Christ's sake- cause He always WINS! & when He wins, I win! :)
“Our dedication to Christ makes us look like fools…”
1 Corinthians 4:10 NLT
In exactly two months i'll be in Africa for 30 days!
Currently, I am in the processing of raising money to cover the cost of two missions trips. One in Uganda and one in Kenya!
The Ugandan trip is in partnership with Reach Up Reach Out Ministries. We will be hosting a RURO Worship & Arts Camp at Smile Africa Ministries for 300+ orphans! I have been boldly asking generous hearts to give, sacrificing my own money, braiding hair, and finding side work to help save for this trip! Click here to partner with me in building this "ark" aka my #GodDream.
(Read more: 3 Reasons I am Returning to Uganda).
The second half of my missions trip will be spent in Kenya at Likoni Aids Orphanage with a beautiful friend of mine! We will be blessing more orphans with gifts & love! Click here to find out how you can partner with these efforts.
More than ever, I am believing God for exact measurements & clear direction just like he did for the homie Noah! Ultimately, It's His Kingdom Come & His will be done- not mine.
Thanks for reading fool! Haha! :)
